| Rape perhaps requires a bit more of a depraved mind than murder. I could list a few good reasons to murder, and stories of where the murderer can be sympathized with. I cannot do the same for rape. To me, there is no reasoning for rape I can understand or sympathize with. Any "legitimate' reasoning I have heard of requires incredibly difficult, convoluted circumstances that are often restricted to the realm of fantasy. To me, a murderer can be a decent person pushed to the edge as well as an immoral figure. Rapists are generally just depraved, sadistic individuals. Not weighing the crimes essentially, but the type of individuals that would commit them. There are many normal reasons one can murder another human being, but what reason is there to rape? You also can apply this to murdering certain animals or children, which generally causes a higher emotional reaction from people. |

But I'm a humanitarian at best and I think it should be in our best benefit to care for those who've dealt with near-death or traumatizing experiences, but that doesn't mean we should think less of those who've died. | Thought I would stop by and share my opinion since I've been molested and people have attempted to kill me in unrelated incidents. Hopefully it will help shed some light on it for people who haven't been through one, or either, scenario. Personally I find rape to be worse because the mental/emotional damages it does. Even though there was no insertion in my case it still caused me to almost completely withdraw from interaction with people. I couldn't stand being touched even on the shoulder, have people look at me, just every interaction was a constant reminder of what happened, and where it could of easily went. It was to the point that I felt uncomfortable with touching myself in order to shower. It may sound a little extreme coming from someone who was just touched, but it really makes your life a living hell. Those who are unfortunate enough to receive the full rape probably get even more extreme notions of being less than human from going through it. (sorry but I dont have the words to express in detail what it does to someone without loosing my grip) On the other hand of this conversation your run of the mill killer just wants you gone and quickly for whatever reason. It's no different than getting into a playground fight where the other kid picks up a brick except that you may not see that brick coming. (yes i know not everyone is murdered by a brick, but what the weapon is is unimportant aside from what the best reactionary course is). |

| Since most rape victims don't commit suicide as a result, we can deduce that most people would rather be raped than dead, which seems to answer the question. One thing in particular, consent is a continuum, therefore so is rape. If you rape someone who is very close to consenting but eventually decided not to, then you have a case of rape which is only just marginally rape. For instance, marital relationship, someone isn't really in the mood and doesn't say yes, but nevertheless doesn't really mind all that much, it's not worth making an effort of objecting. (Although you do have the practical problem of distinguishing such situations from when people are raped who don't actively object because they just freeze and can't do anything because it's just too awful.) |

| In raping, perpetrators does not rape victims to have them suffer from psychiatric injury, the main drive for their actions is their own gain (sexual pleasure), not the victim loss (dignity). They are just doing sex in the wrong way. In murdering, the sole reason for their action is to inflict harms on others. That's inexcusable. Both of the actions are unacceptable in modern society, but raping is more natural and reasonable. |

| Both are awful, but like someone already mentioned, we see death in different way than rape... But you see, this is a very hard, HARD question. IDK maybe it depends on a lot of factors to decide which is worse... Like the motive for which the person was murdered/victim: was he/she an innocent unfortunate person? was she/he guilt of doing something really bad that lead the murderer to murder him/she? For instance let me give you an example: Someone rapes a girl, her father intentionally murders the rapist. Is her father which became a murderer, worst than the rapist? I don´t think so. Now if you have someone murdering people just for fun like a psychopath, well, Its completely awful and perhaps worst than being raped because the victim cannot go back to life X/ But then as someone also already said, if someone is raped it has to live forever with the trauma of it and its so bad that sometimes the victims commit suicide, so...what's worst? man, this a very hard topic, seriously. IMO, For a rapist there are no excuses. Rapists are sick as f*ck. While someone can kill other person unintentionally by accident or self-defense, a rapist rapes with intention of doing it regardless of what she/he might say. | I guess it depends on who the victim is? There are those who would rather have the chance to live even with a traumatic experience such as rape, but there are also those who after being raped would feel as if its not worth it to live anymore. There are really just too many factors that make it impossible to give a solid answer. |

| I keep reading this as "is rap worse than murder." Anyway, gonna have to go with rape since the victim will have to live with the trauma and spend years if not decades figuring out how to deal with it, if that's even possible; I can only imagine. |
