Rock Resurrection is a New Zealand punk rock band founded by brothers Oliver and Tommy Mackie in 2020, during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Originally formed under the name Creature, the band consists of lead vocalist, lead guitarist and producer Oliver Mackie, and drummer and backing vocalist Tommy Mackie.[1]Since they officially announced their project in 2024, Rock Resurrection have released 3 singles, 1 double single, and have plans to release an EP or album in 2025. [2]
History
[edit]July 2024 - December 2024
[edit]Rock Resurrection first announced the release of their debut single 'Infected' in July 2024 with a series of YouTube Shorts featuring short clips of the band playing along to the song, using lots of low quality visual effects. The song was released on July 18th that year, and was not a commercial success, not charting in any country. Despite the lack of commercial success, an official music video was filmed to promote the song, posted in November later that year. The video featured alternated videos of the band playing with fast videoclips of stunts and skate tricks, retaining a largely homemade look and retro style.[3]
One month later, Rock Resurrection followed up with the double single Infected (Deluxe Edition), featuring both the original song and 'Infected (Acoustic)', an acoustic arrangement of Infected. [4] This was followed by Systems Override, a long track with Thrash Metal inspiration and energy. This song was praised for its energy and guitar riffage, but also criticized for its length and repetition.
January 2025 - Feburary 2025
[edit]Rock Resurrection revealed that they were working on a new song, titled 'Right Next To Me'. This was the band's first release with lyrics, and was released on January 13, 2025, along with an official lyric video, audio video and later a sped-up version on the Rock Resurrection Youtube Channel.[5]

Musical Style and Influences
[edit]The band's music has been described as a mixture of ska punk, thrash metal, melodic hardcore, pop punk and blues rock. [6]The Moshpit Monkey blog highlights their Offspring-style guitar solos as a defining element of their sound, particulary in their most recent single 'Right Next To Me' [5]
